    How to Fix: P0340 Code

    Last week, my '03 coupe displayed a P0340 error, indicating a problem with the camshaft position sensor (Phase) for bank one. This issue made it difficult for the car to start and caused the VDC, SES, and SLIP lights to illuminate on the dashboard. Additionally, I experienced power loss while driving, sometimes only a few blocks before the car would stall completely.

    Upon seeking a replacement part, I encountered some confusion due to the listings on Infinitiparts and Riverside Infiniti, which categorize their sensors as right or left, rather than by bank number. From advice I found, I was mistakenly led to believe that bank one corresponded to the left camshaft position sensor—this was incorrect. Despite this mix-up, I replaced the left sensor, which also provided an opportunity to clean the throttle body.

    For clarity, the P0340 code actually refers to the Camshaft Position Sensor Right, which is connected to a green connector near the firewall. This is the correct part to address the issue noted by the diagnostic code. Bank 1 is the left side if your standing in front of the car looking at the engine. Cylinders 1,3,5 are on your left and 2,4,6 are on the right.
